The wandering Tim Woodz has spent the last four years on a non-stop tour, hitting festivals and intimate shows along the east coast, becoming somewhat of a songwriter’s songwriter in the folk music scene.
“Fragile yet bold, effervescent yet muted, the music swells with emotion and intimacy. It’s the perfect way to leave a budding audience satisfied, yet in desperate need of more.” — Melbourne’s Beat Magazine.
Tim’s performances are enigmatic, with songs backed by acoustic guitar, banjo, harmonica and cassette tapes, all delivered with sharp comedic timing, raw tunes, and an energy that’s equal parts heart and chaos.

Currently on his world tour of the East Coast, wandering minstrel Tim Woodz travels in his van, crafting storytelling folk songs with offbeat humour and nostalgic imagery. Tim is a real heart-and-soul performer, orchestrating sing-alongs and telling weird and wonderful antidotes, a true folksman come crooner — a folk crooner! He has supported Tex Perkins and Damien Cowell (TISM) and is a much-loved regular at Wallaby Creek, BMUP, and Wintermoon festivals. When in Victoria, he’s usually appearing at the Selby Folk Club, The Thornbury Local, and the Wesley Anne.
Tim grew up in Churchill (Gippsland, Victoria), becoming increasingly interested in folk music through the GAMC and folk festivals like Port Fairy, NFF, and Maldon. Studying music at the esteemed Box Hill TAFE after high school and playing small, intimate gigs in and around the inner suburbs of Melbourne, he released It’s a Toothbrush EP in 2007 and Whether in 2009. Along came a full-length album in 2012, On a Wire, featuring Possum and Laundromat. In this period, Tim was traveling on small tours of Tassie, heading to festivals in Far North Queensland, along with gigs supporting Tex Perkins, Damien Cowell’s Disco Machine (ex-TISM), and playing AFL for the Rockdogs at the Community Cup. Tim put out Short Stories in 2017 and performed at a number of festivals in 2018/2019 — Kangaroo Valley, The GAS, and Folk by the Sea (as Happy Enchilada), along with the usual Wallaby Creek and BMUP.
During the two COVID lockdowns in Melbourne, Tim had a Facebook live stream show called the “Tuesday Check-in With Chim,” which was infamous among the local community, with lots of virtual guests, parody songs, fun, and hilarity. In 2022, Tim released After All This Time, a sad yet poignant album displaying hope and love for his estranged relationship with his daughter — a piece of work that is still gaining more and more interest as the years go on. This album inspired him to hit the East Coast on tour, and he now tours full-time, playing festivals, house concerts, and intimate venues — along with the occasional pub and cafe to keep the dream alive.
Tim is a calm but quirky, talented but open performer, with a lot of love and stories to share with the world. His music is designed to lift people up and learn from funny and unique observations. A true entertainer and one of a kind — you’ll see Tim Woodz at a venue near you.
